Safesearch is to filter adult content so pages that
would not be fit for kids aren't displayed in a google
search. That's a must if you have kids browsing, even if
I don't really see much bad pages listed anymore in a
normal search. I never really paid attention to that,
but while re-installing software on a computer, I tested
the internet settings and did a search for something I
was first. Weird but my pages were not there, in fact it
was not anywhere, but on my PC it was still #1.I then
noticed that I was gone when the Safesearch was set to
strict. My site would go from 165 pages to 110 when
using a strict Safesearch setting for the site: command.
So 1/3 of the pages on the site were kicked out as being
a risk for kids because they must have adult content.
Right, pages about construction tools all got whacked by
that filter. An other site had a handful that were
filtered, and well, that site is basically a 5-95 years
old subject site.
I had a look at my beaver page, that was most
probably filtered cause that animal uses it's tail.
Talking about the flat tail must be out of line, maybe I
should say it has a flat appendix attached to the rear
of it's body. Now beside that, no way there is anything
on that page giving even an allusion to adult stuff.
Google wracked a full section, the tool one, and a
few pages here and there. Why it whacked that section
may come from 2 things. First, all the tool pages are in
a tool folder, second, all have the same include at the
bottom of the page for the section menu. Main navigation
is the same on all pages. I looked to see if all tool
folders were filter on other sites and they weren't, so
the folder name ain't it. Looking at the menu section
include file, none of the words are close to being adult
related. Whatever is doing this is far fetched.
I figured it had to be links pointing to a page in
that section that came from an adult content page and
sent the plague to the whole tool section. Yeah, like
use adult links to hurt your competition kind of thing.
But, only 3 pages in that section had links from
external pages and none was adult or filtered. So if it
was a backlink used to send a bad signal to my site, it
had been removed.
I modified a few things, and did some tests, but
nothing seems to cause of fix this issue. It's been a
long time changes were made, and so far, nothing has
recovered. It's not as bad as being in the supplemental
index, but when a fresh installation has the filter set
as strict, unless the use go and set it to medium, you
are history even at #1.
It's really irritating to see pages that have closer
adult content show, but my beaver flat tail page being
filtered. I'm sure it's to be sure to filter the bad
dudes that the filter settings are high. I stopped
trying to fix this because I have to make changes that
just hurt more to finally see that nothing seems to fix
this illogical Safesearch filter. It's not that I think
I lose tons of visits... well maybe... it's the idea
that teachers contact me to say they use my animal site
for their students, but found a typo on a page. Maybe a
hand saw can be used to have adult activities of
some kind.
It really taste like it acts the same as the
supplemental results, once the page is in, it's really
hard to get it out. Once the bad karma has been
sent to the page, it seems to stick and you're infected
till there is some reevaluation done. Hopefully, it's
not like AIDS and permanent, but so far, I still don't
know the cure. I did some almost logic deductions to
make some changes and try to fix this Safesearch filter
issue, but so far, nothing has changed.
